How Mediation Works

Mediation keeps you in the driver’s seat.

The structure is intentional. The process is guided. The outcomes are yours.

Overview of the Process

  1. Book a Free Consultation (if needed)
-A brief phone call to answer logistical questions and make sure mediation is a good fit.

  2. Schedule Your Mediation
    - Both Parties select the same time slot from our scheduling page, submit payment, and complete the Intake Forms -- including the Agreement to Mediate.

  3. Intake Review & Confirmation

-A team member reviews the submitted materials, follows up if additional information is needed, and confirms your session.

  4. We Meet and Mediate

  5. We Prepare Your Mediated Agreement or Other Documents
    - If resolution is reached, we draft your mediated agreement or other necessary documents.

  6. Move Forward
-You leave with clarity, direction, and a plan.

What to Expect During the Mediation Session

Mediation isn't just a conversation — it’s a structured, thoughtful process designed to help you move forward efficiently. Sessions can be held in-person or via secure video conference.

1. Introductions

We typically begin together in the same room (physical or virtual). If needed, separate rooms are available.

The mediator reviews confidentiality, roles, and expectations. Each party then provides a 2-3 minute overview of their perspective.

2. Private Meetings (Caucus)

The mediator meets individually with each party to:

  • Understand goals and concerns

  • Identify any power imbalances or safety considerations

  • Plan the structure for a productive discussion

3. Guided Conversation & Problem Solving

We work through issues one at a time. Sessions may be joint or structured separately (“shuttle” mediation).

The mediator keeps the discussion focused, balanced, and solution-oriented -- helping identify practical, workable agreements.

4. Documenting Agreements

If agreements are reached, the mediator prepares a clear Memorandum of Understanding outlining the terms.

Once signed, each party receives a copy. You may then file it with the court, share it with counsel, or use it as needed.

5. Close with Confidence

You chose mediation. You stayed in control. Now you move forward with clarity.
